I love our flat, I really do, the location is amazing, the layout is good and we have tonnes of space. However it is a generic rented flat, white walls, ikea furniture and beige carpet and me and Sam aren’t really generic people. Over the last year and a half we have been slowly but surely putting our own stamp on this little place, hanging some of my paintings, adding a bit of furniture and a fluffy green rug, however the bedroom has been kind of ignored. I had this idea in my head of a bohemian bedroom, somewhere really quirky, with an eastern feel, lots of clutter and various eccentricities, reds and golds and fabrics and beads. The only problem is that the flat is rented so we can’t do anything drastic and unchangeable. So I will share with you my inspiration and keep updating the blog on our bohemian bedroom and how this idea in my head actually turns out.
So, inspiration… here are a few spaces which I really love.
Pinterest is a great way to see how other people have designed their rooms.
Call me nerdy all you like but I adore Firefly, it really is one of the best sci fi shows ever made. I love Inara’s shuttle, the draped fabric, candles, lamps and red and purple colour scheme.
Music is a big deal in this house. We have far too many guitars and a rather large record collection so I love these old vintage feeling recording studios, the bright colours and crazy wall coverings.
There is something about old orthodox and coptic churches that I find really inspiring, I love the colours, the sumptuously painted icons and the gaudy over the top decor.
I also want to add a hippy feel, inspired by the 70s, the peace and love movement and Simon and Garfunkel. Why not?!
So there we go, an internet moodboard if you will. I will keep you updated on progress, I have just bought a giant indian wall hanging which needs photographing!
Love, Mrs Gardom
